Contex introduce Nextimage Touch touchscreen software

Since first releasing its Nextimage scanning and copying software in June 2008, Contex has applied consistent software development to this product and released better and more powerful new versions. One release offers the best TWAIN interface we have seen.

Contex has now announced a new version in the impressive evolution of this product. Called Nextimage Touch, it is, as its name suggests, a touchscreen version offering comprehensive scan and copy functionality primarily to the emerging MFP (multi-function peripheral) market.

Contex is a leader in the supply of large format scanners and imaging solutions. It provides two large format scanning solutions based around traditional CCD models, the long-serving HD Series, and CIS models, the newer SD Series. Like all large format scanner manufacturers, Contex is currently pushing hard to sell its scanners as part of a large format MFP (scanner and printer) combination. In this high stakes race, Contex is now well-equipped with a powerful touchscreen software solution that suits quick and easy walk-up scan-to-copy activities.

Contex's new Nextimage Touch includes all the features of Nextimage SCAN+COPY software, i.e. the same power as the full version. Most importantly, it adds the ease of touch-screen use, assuming, of course, that you prefer to work this way rather than use a more familiar mouse and keyboard. According to Contex, Nextimage Touch allows users to scan-to-file, scan-to-email, copy, edit files and print directly from the touch-screen interface with no sacrifice of features or scan quality.

Nextimage Touch supports scanning and copying in color, grayscale and black and white and is compatible with 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows. It is designed to add greater versatility to and improve the efficiency of Contex's new large format MFP scanning solutions. Contex expects the space-saving SD4430 (CIS) MFP Office Copier and the versatile HD3650 (CCD) MFP Multifunction Solution to both benefit from touch-screen workflow. Nextimage Touch has built-in support for most wide format printers, like HP and Canon, as well as a built-in "batch mode" for volume scanning work.

The aim of touchscreen software is to make large format scan-to-copy as easy as using the office photocopier. While a touchscreen interface may make operation easier for those used to pushing one button on a photocopier, we wonder what level of quality will be achieved should the necessary scan and copy settings not be applied first.

The historic problem of large format scanner operation has been unsophisticated operators who lack experience and a realistic appreciation of what needs to be achieved. Will Nextimage Touch make high quality scanned images more achievable - or simply attract even less sophisticated operators with a consequent further decline in scanned image quality?

Brian Honeycutt, Contex's Product Manager, Wide Format Solutions, says "Nextimage Touch is very easy to use. Users simply touch the screen and start scanning or copying immediately with no keyboard input or mouse clicks. When text entry is necessary, the built-in keyboard enables entry directly from the touch screen. Nextimage Touch also includes scan-to-email, so images can be shared quickly and easily. Nextimage Touch is, very simply, the easiest, fastest way to scan, copy and share images."

Nextimage Touch can be purchased with Contex wide format MFP solutions. Included among the various options which Contex are offering with their Contex SD4430 Office Copier and Contex HD3650 Multifunction Solution is a touchscreen PC, an additional expense which you will need to make in order to benefit from this attractive-looking software.
