CONSOLIDATIONS:

Image Access acquires worldwide Bookeye sales channel

Image Access GmbH, the innovative German manufacturer of the WideTEK range of 36", 42" and 48" large format, 25" flatbed and Bookeye planetary scanners, has acquired worldwide sales rights for the Bookeye range from ImageWare GmbH.

Based in Wuppertal, Image Access is the leading German scanner manufacturer and the only one worldwide to offer planetary, sheet feed and flatbed scanning solutions. This product diversity has seen its marketing divided between different partners and sales channels, an issue it is now addressing.

Towards a stronger Image Access

Image Access Products

The acquisition of the worldwide sales rights for the Bookeye range serves to strengthen Image Access at a time when it is achieving growth and recognition through new partners and innovative new products, like the recently released WideTEK 36 DS, the world's first wide format duplex scanner capable of scanning two sides of a document in one pass. Importantly, by acquiring rights to sell its own Bookeye scanners, Image Access is now able to offer its complete product portfolio of planetary, flatbed and wide format scanners for the first time.

Previously Image Access' WideTEK and Bookeye products were sold separately. WideTEK wide format scanners were sold through Image Access GmbH while Bookeye flatbed scanners were sold exclusively through ImageWare GmbH, the exception being the US and Canada where Image Access retained Bookeye sales rights (but gave WideTEK wide format scanner sales rights exclusively to Kodak, previously BB+H). For many years, it made sense to have separate sales channels because Bookeye planetary scanners are targeted mostly to libraries where there was little or no demand for wide format scanners.

However, with growing market share and its scanners becoming more and more identical in their technical aspects, Image Access has recognised that it is now advantageous to unite marketing and sales under one roof. In future, Image Access will supply the worldwide market directly with its range of planetary scanners, wide format sheet feed scanners and large format flatbed scanners. However, in the USA and Canada, all sales will go through Image Access Inc. with the exception of the WideTEK range of wide format sheet fed scanners which Kodak will sell exclusively as the Infinity range.

Image Access Inc. of Boca Raton, Florida, is a sister company of Image Access GmbH in Germany. Both companies were founded at the same time. Image Access Inc. sells WideTEK flatbed scanners but not the WideTEK 36, 42 and 48s which, as stated, are sold exclusively by Kodak in the USA under the Infinity label. Image Access Inc. also sells the Bookeye range of planetary scanners in North America. Image Access Inc. is very active in the US academic market, offering complete WideTEK flatbed and Bookeye book scanning solutions to universities and public and private libraries.

Thomas Ingendoh present Image Access video
Learn about how Image Access products
are built from this video introduced by
Thomas Ingendoh, President and CEO.

Thomas Ingendoh is the President and CEO of Image Access GmbH and the driving force behind Image Access scanning products.

"By expanding our product spectrum," he says, "reducing sales channel overhead and taking advantage of synergies, we win in logistics, support and administration. This paves the road to an even more attractive offering to our customers. Bringing development, production and sales together under one roof solidifies our position as leaders in the manufacturing and marketing of high end imaging technology and enables us to strengthen and extend our scanner sales."

"The ongoing development roadmap for camera optics, image processing and scanner functionality can be implemented in all Image Access scanners and guarantees high speed, optimal quality and ultimate compatibility between the scanner families Bookeye and WideTEK" says a confident Ingendoh.

With the aim of having the combined products gain the benefits of a consolidated marketing approach to a wider sales channel under the aegis of Image Access GmbH, Rudiger Klepsch, previously CEO of ImageWare, becomes COO / Sales and Marketing Director of Image Access with responsibility for the Bookeye planetary and WideTEK wide format scanner and flatbed ranges, as well as other Image Access products.

"This clear separation of Image Access, as an industrial scanner manufacturer, and ImageWare, as software developer and project specialist in the public and private library sectors, will serve the future demands of both companies for performant, competitive and focused products," says Rudiger Klepsch.

"With my decade long experience as "Bookeye" product and sales manager at ImageWare, I couldn't be more pleased about moving in this new direction. The advantages for the customers of both companies and their procured products are extensive" says Klepsch.

ImageWare GmbH

ImageWare GmbH remains under the control of CEO Rolf Rasche. In future, ImageWare will focus on their central competencies - software, project solutions and service and will extend their activities in these areas.

ImageWare GmbH plan to further develop their BCS-2 (Basic-Capturing-System) application. With over 3000 installations, it is a leading scanning software package for planetary, flatbed, sheet feed and microfilm scanners. ImageWare will also enhance their MyBib eDoc, a workflow and document delivery product family for libraries. ImageWare will also act as a non-exclusive reseller of Bookeye planetary scanners whose main focus will be to provide software, projects and services in Germany to the academic world, as well as public and private libraries.

"The digitalization market for library content is exploding not only through the efforts of Google and Microsoft. Digital content delivery will be a driving force in the coming years and it is exactly here that we have our key capabilities" says Rasche. "Therefore, we can offer our customers solutions that can be properly juristically implemented. Naturally, we will continue to offer our customers a wide palette of complete solutions".
