INDUSTRY ROUND-UP:
The new Océ CS4236 large format scanner.
Océ, a global leader in corporate, professional SME and bureau service digital document management solutions, has released its Quarterly Finacial Report 2009/1.
Océ reports Q1 / 2009 revenues of € 658 million (approximately US $868 million), down 6.3% from one year ago. Net profit was € 15.3 million. Océ notes that its Wide Format Division was affected by a strong decline in the construction industry, a key target market. Océ plans to lay off 1,253 employees this year.
Highlights of Océ's first quarter are:
Rokus van Iperen, Chairman of the Océ Board of Executive Directors, said "Our first quarter performance has been encouraging, especially given today’s economic turbulence.
"We have been able to mitigate the impact of the economic downturn and the declining markets due to our business model, timely launched cost reduction programs and balance sheet improvements. Océ has strengthened its competitive position in key segments of business services, display graphics, color continuous feed printing and cutsheet production printing. Color revenues, generating better margins, grew to 27% of total revenues."
Océ's head office is in the Netherlands. Large format scanners represent only part of the digital document management solutions which Océ offers internationally. The bulk of Océ's Wide Format Division is concentrated on and emphasises large format printing. Here scanners are integral as part of a large format copying solution.
Océ sells Contex scanners under its own brand name worldwide. Océ has long been a Contex OEM. Most recently, Océ put its good name to the new SD Series, Contex's first generation of CIS (contact image sensor) scanners. The new Océ CS4236 is based on the lower mid range Contex SD4430 which is marked by modest monochrome and slow color scan speeds. Importantly, unlike the Contex SD 4430 which has a 44 inches image width, the new Océ CS4236 has just a 36" image width. This suits the AEC market, say Océ. Sources at Océ say they plan to release a 44" model shortly.
