Advanced PDF conversion now seamlessly integrated within the industry-leading technical drawing vectorization solution.

Softcover has announced Version 8 of Scan2CAD, its popular, professional raster to vector converter which now integrates accurate and advanced, near-instant automatic conversions of vector PDF files into a DXF file format suitable for editing in AutoCAD and or any similar compatible PC CAD, CNC or GIS program.

Softcover, the publisher of Scan2CAD two-in-one raster to vector and PDF to CAD conversion software, has announced that HP is providing a 30-day trial of Scan2CAD with the new HP Designjet T2300 eMultifunction printer (eMFP), the first ever web-ready large format printer with scan, print and copy functionality.

The fully-working trial of Scan2CAD allows HP Designjet T2300 eMFP users to convert scans of technical drawings, site plans, contour maps, schematics and outlines, etc., into a DXF file suitable for editing in AutoCAD or any PC CAD or similar compatible program. It can also save scanned or vectorized images as PDF files for worldwide distribution by email.

HP Designjet T2300 eMFP users can scan directly from Scan2CAD v8 and convert the scan using straightforward, pre-defined settings. Working from a host PC, Scan2CAD v8 offers an easy to use scanning interface with controls for color, greyscale or monochrome drawings, optical resolution, paper type, background removal, image rotation and more. Adjustable default settings for converting AEC, mechanical and electrical drawings, site plans, contour maps and CNC outlines, etc., to CAD can be used "as is" or fine-tuned to enhance the quality of the conversion. The flexibility of these settings enable Scan2CAD to produce professional quality raster to vector conversions of greater accuracy and more usefulness to AEC, CAD, CAM, CNC and GIS users.

With 16 years of consistent software development behind it, Scan2CAD v8 is an industry-leading vectorization solution. Scan2CAD v8's many powerful and professional features, operational flexibility, more accurate conversions and cost-effective price and performance make it today's outstanding raster to vector and PDF to CAD conversion solution. As part of the HP Graphics Solutions Partner Program, Scan2CAD v8 became the first third party software application to scan directly from the new HP Designjet T2300 eMFP.

"Softcover is pleased that HP has chosen Scan2CAD as the raster to vector converter to be distributed with its exciting, industry-defining MFP product," said Andrea Tribe, Softcover's Managing Director. "Using Scan2CAD in conjunction with the HP Designjet T2300 eMFP means that HP's users will be able to achieve suitable image quality for raster to vector conversions of the highest possible standard, enabling them to edit scanned drawings in their CAD software," she said.

The great benefit of using Scan2CAD to scan directly from the HP Designjet T2300 eMFP for the purposes of raster to vector conversion is that it gives the user practical control over the acquisition of suitably scanned images. Unlike most large format scanning software, Scan2CAD uses a productivity enhancing "scan once" approach to image improvement. Scanned images can be edited as many times as necessary without the need for rescanning. By interrogating the scanned image on-screen in Scan2CAD and adjusting the settings to improve its quality, scanned images suitable for raster to vector conversion can be quickly acquired. These can be cleaned and improved with flexible and effective raster editing tools before conversion.

In addition, Scan2CAD v8 is a comprehensive PDF to CAD conversion solution with a near-instant ability to convert any PDF file sent by clients and colleagues worldwide into an accurate DXF file that can be quickly edited in any CAD program, including AutoCAD. Scan2CAD v8 will open and convert single and multi-page raster, vector and hybrid (both raster and vector) PDF files. User-friendly licensing options allow Scan2CAD to run on more than one PC and be shared with colleagues via a USB stick, floating or fixed network license, all at no extra cost.

The benefits of using Scan2CAD with the HP Designjet T2300 eMFP include:

  • Industry leading raster to vector conversion
  • Comprehensive raster, vector and hybrid (both) PDF conversion
  • Saves DXF files that can be edited in any CAD program including AutoCAD
  • Gives visual control over the quality of the scanned and edited image
  • Powerful yet easy tools for scanned image clean-up and improvement
  • No need for rescanning when making multiple edits to images
  • Inexpensive floating licences allow anyone on a network to use it.

"We are pleased to offer the Scan2CAD raster-to-vector and PDF conversion software trial with the HP Designjet T2300 eMFP to make it easier for our customers to scan, edit and share drawings with partners and clients," said Alex Monino, Strategic Marketing Manager, HP Designjet business, HP.
